Petition Opposing CSU Staff Layoff

We, the undersigned, urge the Board of Trustees to protect employee jobs by using the CSU's $4 billion budget surplus, of which $1.5 billion is discretionary funds, to alleviate state budget cuts. We call on you to lead with better judgment: Do not grant exorbitant salary increases to your campus executives while consigning frontline workers to the unemployment line to face the loss of healthcare in the middle of a deadly pandemic.

Due to the pandemic, the CSU projected low student enrollment; however, enrollment is up at the CSU this fall - a clear sign that higher education is viewed as a vital asset for one's future. The CSU cannot hope to recruit, educate, and support students through downsizing University operations. There is a $1.5 billion surplus, revealed in the California State Auditor report in 2019. It is time to use that surplus and stop the layoffs.
