Hello!
Union Announcements
Ø Impacts of the current & recent wildfires
Your safety at work matters, and CSUEU is advocating for emergency pay for employees who physically reported to impacted campuses. The CSUEU 2579 contract includes strong protections for your health and safety (Sections 23.3, 23.7, 23.8)—if you’re asked to work in unsafe conditions, like poor air quality, you have the right to protect yourself. Reach out to your administrator and union for support, and remember, Cal/OSHA standards Cal/OSHA’s Protection from Wildfire Smoke standard require employers to safeguard workers from wildfire smoke.
Additional resources available:
· SEIU California's Disaster Relief Fund offers up to $3,000 for fire-related financial hardships. Apply here.
· Los Angeles County Federation of Labor provides housing, utilities, food, and PPE support. Apply here.
· You can support fellow members by donating to the SEIU Disaster Relief Fund.
Unfortunately, the fire threat is ongoing, and CSUEU will continue to update you on safety guidelines and resources. Please keep our CSUEU community in your thoughts, and know your Union is here to support you. Stay safe!
Ø CA Governors Election
The 2026 California Governor Election is heating up, and CSUEU members have an exclusive chance to connect with top candidates and hear their vision for California and higher education. Join our webinar series to engage directly with candidates before our Union begins its endorsement process. Don’t miss the next session with Lt. Gov. Eleni Kounalakis on Feb. 12—registration details coming soon!
Ø Budget Update & Impacts to CSUEU Staff
Gov. Newsom’s 2025–26 budget proposal includes $252.3 million for the CSU to implement a full Steps salary structure. Despite a 7.95% reduction in general fund support, the Governor ensured the CSU has the funding for staff pay increases. The CSUEU contract specifies salary steps start in October 2025. The proposal is a draft, subject to changes and uncertainties, including federal funding. There is ONE town hall session available to attend Friday @noon.
