Hello.
Union Announcements
Ø Townhall synopsis
Townhall sessions took place late last month discussing moving to the salary schedule (Steps) and the state budget. Here’s the highlights.
Good news: the governor maintains his commitment to the multi-year compact agreement
- CSUEU expects placement on the salary schedule by the end of October.
- The CSU classification mapping is scheduled to conclude March 30th
- Those moving into a new classification will be contacted by HR in writing.
Bad news: a 7.95% reduction in statewide general fund support and other budget uncertainties, such as wildfires and federal actions, may impact CSU funding.
Back to Good news: CSUEU insists on full implementation of Steps per the contract, while CSU may argue that budget cuts justify reopening salary negotiations.
- To counter this,
- CSUEU urges members to organize, demand CSU uphold its promise and increase union membership for greater influence.
- Members are also encouraged to contribute to the Political Action Committee (PAC), which strengthens advocacy with state legislators - the strongest unions have the strongest political engagement. Note: the PAC was key to securing our recent salary increases. The CSUEU has multiple engagement activities planned systemwide to support this effort.
Ø Classification Study Complete
The classification study results, including updated job descriptions and salaries, are now available, making it easier to enforce the contract and ensure correct classification. The union emphasizes the importance of membership strength in achieving these results and continues to push for salary steps starting in October 2025. Members are encouraged to discuss these steps with coworkers and ensure active membership to maintain pressure on CSU and the CA Legislature for proper campus job funding. View the new classifications, associated structures and grades (salaries) from the Classifications Study page.
Note: we only won our contract and the return to Steps via the strength (numbers) of our membership. We still have much more to fight for! If you are not already a member, take that leap. We will need each other to get through the challenges ahead and contract bargaining ahead! Join!
Ø No Layoffs!
CSUEU is mobilizing to stop layoffs at Sonoma State University and CSU Dominguez Hills, arguing that management’s decisions are disrupting services and workers’ lives. They have submitted a letter to the Board of Trustees and reached out to state legislators for accountability. Public meetings are being organized to address the proposed cuts and ensure transparency. For more information, read the full article.
Ø Meet a Governor Candidate – Eleni Kounalakis
We have the great opportunity to get a sense of our next state governor by attending “Meet the Governor Candidate: sessions CSUEU has connected to. Find out who Eleni is and ask her questions of what she will do for the CSU and how she plans to help CSUEU us. Register for the session scheduled for Wednesday, February 12 at noon.
Not a member? We are stronger and have more power together than alone! It is never too late to join!
