Union Announcements
📢 Important Announcements!
- Medicaid Action – Congress is pushing to cut $800B from Medicaid, which would negatively impact California’s budget and jeopardize higher education funding.
- Call Congress TODAY at 866-426-2631 toll free and join thousands in the Medicaid Saves Lives Call-In Day to oppose these cuts. Tell them: Vote NO on Medicaid cuts that strip healthcare from millions!
- Voters Voice - Fund the CSU!
- CSU workers are joining to advocate for adequate state budget funding. As a Labor Coalition, CSUEU members & non-members joined every other labor organization at the CSU to sign a letter, addressing budget committee chairs, to warn that the current 7.95% proposed reduction to the CSU "will have a devastating impact." And while we push for full CSU funding, we also need to demand oversight, noting that staff face layoffs while management positions continue to grow. You can help by emailing legislators to remind them that layoffs jeopardize student support. So far, 2,300 emails have been sent—let’s double that this week!

📰Other News
- Within the CSU
- ✊Resident Assistants (RAs) Organize
- Resident Assistants at CSU have filed to join our union, seeking a voice in their working conditions. They provide essential support, mentorship, and safety for dorm residents, yet their work is often unpaid. Because their housing is tied to their jobs, unfair dismissals or contract non-renewals put both their employment and housing at risk.
- ✊Your Union at Work! - Workers at ASI Sac State Stand up to Workplace Abuse
- ASI Sacramento employee Jason Cortright was suspended for discussing unionizing, but after a CSUEU-led rally, he was reinstated and will continue organizing. Meanwhile, two workers at the ASI Children's Center resigned amid allegations of a manager's racist behavior, which is now under investigation. Our union stands with these employees and remains committed to fighting workplace abuse and discrimination.
- ✊Campuses Fight Back Against Layoffs & Cuts!
- SSU: Of 16 staff positions slated for layoff, we successfully negotiated for 4 members to keep their jobs, plus three others who were able to retreat to their previous posts. Weekly campus actions, with faculty, Teamsters, and students have been powerful and effective at holding Sonoma State management accountable.
- LA: Campus workers rallied in the rare Southern California rain to make our message clear: Layoffs are unnecessary and shortsighted! While no CSUEU members are currently being threatened with layoffs, we united with the other unions to defend jobs on campus.
- Cal Poly SLO: Staff has grown by less than 2% while management positions have grown 74% in the last 10 years. We fought back when management told staff to prepare for cuts - and the campus reversed course! "This is a powerful reminder that CSU leaders do listen to our voices, and we can make a difference," said Erin Foote, VP for Organizing.
- Channel Islands: CSUEU rallied to stop layoffs last week. Jessica Dalton, Chapter President, said: "Our weekly #TogetherTuesday walks unite us in solidarity, standing with our sibling unions as the CSU attempts to mask years of financial mismanagement behind budget shortfalls and enrollment declines. These fear tactics won’t divide us."
- Outside the CSU
- ✊Barnes & Noble workers won their first union contract at three NY locations! – raised their minimum wage to $23/hour and improved their healthcare benefits
