Budget Next Steps

  • Thank you to all that reached out to the governor and speaker of both the state senate & state assembly!  The California State University (CSU) system received full funding in the newly signed state budget, including $227 million in "compact" funding meant to support salary step increases for staff.  Your help has got us over that hurdle!
  • However, we are NOT finished…
    • Despite receiving full funding, the CSU administration is claiming the delayed $144 million (set aside until next year) is a "reduction," and is using that as an excuse to avoid honoring its contractual obligations. The CSUEU (California State University Employees Union) is pushing back, insisting the contract is clear and steps must be implemented in October 2025. They are organizing actions, including the petition below, legal consultation, and outreach to legislators.
  • Actions to Take:
  • ✅ Sign the petition demanding CSU implement the agreed salary steps now.
  • ✅ Share the petition (including Spanish version) with colleagues to show collective support.
  • ✅ Stay informed about updates from CSUEU as they consult legal counsel and legislative allies.
  • ✅ Participate in advocacy efforts as coordinated by CSUEU to uphold the contract.
  • ✅ If not a member, join & be a CSUEU member! Real change isn’t made alone—it’s built through our unity and shared action…& we are going to need each other over the next 3.5 years!

Anti-Union Flyers

  • Be on the lookout of more flyers from the Freedom Foundation (an organization funded by billionaires to break unions in CA and across the country).  Their aim is to divide us to take away our power (15K strong across CA!).  It is our union that improves CSU staff’s working conditions, allows us to have the benefits we do, and makes our lives & communities better.

Don’t be fooled. When we stand together, we all do better!

Happy 4th!

As we celebrate the birth of our democracy, may we remember the power of collective voices and the importance of standing together for justice, fairness, and opportunity for all. Let this holiday inspire us to keep building a future rooted in unity, equity, and hope.

Have a safe, restful, and meaningful Independence Day.
