Union Announcement
Members, here’s the truth: our next contract bargaining starts in January. The CSUEU leaders know we couldn’t get everything for everyone this time—they used the 80/20 rule to get those below marketing value raised up. Our upcoming contract negotiations is where we build on those wins and fight for the rest. And we only walk into those bargaining negotiations strong if we all are united now (members & non-members alike).
Right now, CSU management is watching the petition numbers. Out of 259 Chancellor’s Office employees, only 43 have signed—that’s 16%. Systemwide, we need 7,000 signatures (50%) by Sept. 1. If we can’t even show majority support on a petition, how do we expect CSU to take us seriously in January when we start bargaining for a new contract?
This isn’t about one piece of paper—it’s about leverage. Without cohesion, we weaken ourselves. Every withheld signature now tells CSU they can drag their feet on any negotiations. Every added signature pushes us closer to real power.
Here’s the path forward:
- August: Keep collecting signatures from the membership and putting pressure on the Governor & Legislature.
- September: Deliver petitions to the BOT with majority support with the backing of state government.
- October: If needed, we will move to informational pickets if CSU refuses to fully implement STEPs.
- Beyond: Continue to pursue legal options--Public Employment Relations Board (PERB) charges.
Join with other CSU unions in a Community Day of Action as state budget cuts threaten Medi-Cal, CalFresh, and higher ed funding.
π Don’t let short-term frustration cost us long-term progress. Don’t let frustration or silence hand CSU the win. If we can’t stand together on a petition, we walk into January divided and weaker.
Members: Sign the petition. Stand united. Build leverage for January.
If you are not a member, now’s your chance to JOIN and participate in pushing for a better contract & future for yourself and all CSU staff.
