Our contract negotiations
with the CSU officially kicked off on Friday (Feb. 17).
Under this limited
contract re-opener, CSUEU is focused on wages and benefits, and
our opening proposal makes absolutely
clear that we want to see the CSU begin implementing a merit
salary step structure, which was a key recommendation from the Mercer salary study conducted last
year.
The CSU
appears to agree with us on the concept. We
received a serious opening proposal that had clearly
been thought out. While it is not fully fleshed out in the
details, the proposal does include steps. As is the case
with negotiations, we expect to build on the initial proposal to
reach a better final agreement for members. We’re evaluating the
proposal now and will be working on a comprehensive response.
There will be a lot of work from both sides before we reach a
deal to present to our members for a vote.
