This week, career staff and student assistants showed CSU management what collective worker actions look like! We delivered our petition to 17 campus presidents with a unified message:

We want a fair contract for student workers and full steps structure for career staff!

More than 4,000 workers signed our CSUEU petition which means it took a very long - 26 feet long - printed scroll to contain all the supportive signatures. Check out Instagram photos and YouTube video. While CSU Chancellor Mildred García and the Board of Trustees were meeting in Long Beach, we delivered our petition to campus presidents. Our actions aimed to remind CSU leadership that student learning and success does not happen without essential frontline services provided by staff.

This is just the first step, and we plan to escalate. When career staff and student assistants unite, we have a stronger voice. Our fight for a student assistant first contract is connected to our fight for a full implementation of steps.

As the largest union at the CSU, we will keep up the pressure to win the support of Gov. Gavin Newsom and the state Legislature who control CSU funding.
