Few things are as powerful in a democracy as the
ability of constituents to meet with elected leaders in the halls
of power and talk freely about their hopes and concerns. CSUEU's
annual visit to the state Capitol is the epitome of worker power:
union activists making our voices heard on behalf of the
thousands of Staff and Student Assistants represented in our
Union. From contract improvements to better working conditions,
we are our best advocates!
Ken, from Los Angeles, shared that he sells plasma
monthly for extra income. Jennifer, from Monterey Bay, spoke of
her first-hand experience when campus management fails to
properly enforce Title IX, a federal law that protects students
and employees from discrimination and harassment. And Theresa,
from Fullerton, asked for legislators' support as Student
Assistants begin to bargain for their first-ever contract with
the CSU.
This Lobby Day (April 16) marks the first time
CSUEU met with legislators as a union of 35,000 represented
employees, counting our newest Bargaining Unit 15 - Student
Assistants. Check out photos from the day and X (Twitter) posts.
