CA Legislature Adopts Budget Bill
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
California's state Legislature has adopted a budget bill which differs
slightly from the proposal from Gov. Gavin Newsom in
May. Legislators want to restore the deferred
payment of the 2024 Compact to CSU and UC but
would impose a larger cut on CSU and UC for 2025.
CSUEU members joined with dozens of others
for an SEIU rally in Sacramento this week to advocate for a
budget that supports workers and families.
The next step in the process is for the Governor and the Assembly
and Senate leadership to confer and attempt to reach agreement on
the overall budget package by June 27. The deadline for
the Governor to sign a budget bill is June 30.

How are CSU Staff affected?
There is no change to the terms of our contract with the CSU.
CSUEU-represented employees will get a 5% pay increase effective
July 1. The Salary Steps implementation is
on track and will start October 2025. If the state budget causes
the CSU to trigger the contract’s contingency language, our
Bargaining Team will bargain with the CSU. There will be union
update once the final budget is adopted.

Smart organizations do everything they can to
avoid layoffs. It's disruptive to services and demoralizing for
the workforce. But CSU Monterey Bay Management must have
skipped Leadership 101 because without any warning, they
laid off 10 CSUEU staff members, even when 40 workers already
opted for early retirement exit.
CSUEU members are fighting back with a grievance
and will be meeting to bargain over the
impact of layoffs.
