CSU
Subjects Athletic Trainers to Exploitative Working Conditions
|
Sign petition to demand that the CSU take immediate
action
|
CSU Athletic
Trainers provide critical health care to student athletes. They
are trained to prevent, recognize, and assess injuries, as well
as initiate rehabilitation programs when students are injured.
Athletic Trainers are integral to any University sports
program and yet the CSU has subjected them for far too long to
unfair and exploitative working conditions.
|
|
|
|
|
|
Systemic
mismanagement has led to an astonishing turnover rate of 26%
among Athletic Trainers over the past two years.
Sign the petition to support Athletic
Trainers who deserve to have their scheduling, workload and
staffing issues improved without further delay.
All members of the
CSU community are encouraged to add their signature; please share

Grow Your Skills, Solve Problems
Become a Union Steward
|
|
|
|
|
|
by Jessica Westbay
Vice
President for Representation
Have you ever wanted to expand your leadership skills and become
more involved with CSUEU? If you said yes, now is your time!
CSUEU is accepting applications to our next stewards cohort
training which will be held April 1 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. via
Zoom.
What is a steward? Stewards are the vital life stream of any
local union. Stewards promote fairness, justice, and equality at
their campuses by:
• Invigorating, encouraging, and inspiring
members
• Keeping members informed of union activities
• Representing their worksite in appropriate
meetings of the union
• Responsible for representing the interests of
members
• Organizing a strong and united campus
• Orienting new members
• Enforcing contracts and workers' rights on
the job
If this sounds like an opportunity for you, you can apply here: https://forms.gle/myYi7yfjtpfqpmzq9

Join Education Justice National Town Hall
|
Great news -
Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal (WA) will join SEIU education
and care workers across the nation on our Education Justice
National Town Hall on Saturday, March 18 at 9 a.m. Register here.

|
|
|
|
|
This event will
bring together members from Early Learning and Care, K-12, and
Higher Education into one conversation to speak loudly, with one
voice, our demands for fully-funded, accessible and equitable
education and care system, from birth to career – because this is
what our kids and families need.
While working
people have borne the brunt of chronic under-funding of critical
public services and education, corporations have only gotten
richer while paying no taxes. There is nothing moral about that.

Union Bargaining Survey Reveals Members'
Housing Struggle
|
With the help of
more than 4,000 member survey responses, our Bargaining Team now
has a better economic, educational, and racial profile of our
membership. The data collected will help guide the union's
advocacy work. More from the survey.
|
|
|
|
|
|
Key highlights on housing:
- 41% of
respondents report paying $2,000 - $3,500 in rent or
mortgage per month.
- 61% report an
increase in rent over the past two years, with 1 in 3 seeing
a jump of more than 10%.
Multiple unions are
in contract negotiations with the CSU this year and we are
supporting one another to pressure Management to invest in the
University workforce that is behind student success.

The SJSU
Chapter 307 was looking for some good trouble and hosted a Unity
Wednesday Break with colleagues from California Faculty
Association (CFA), Teamsters 2010, and Academic Professionals of
California (APC). Building our labor coalition on campus is a
crucial part of showing our collective strength to the CSU.

With the
support for labor unions at a 57-year high -- 71 percent of
Americans now in favor of unions -- it is exciting to see a
whole new generation of workers recognize their own power.
Thousands of
Student Assistants work alongside CSUEU members at the CSU
without the benefit of a contract. Student Workers see that
forming a union is the best pathway to address their stagnant
pay and poor working conditions. Our Union fully embraces
the Student Workers Union seeking to join CSUEU as we expand our
#CSULaborNation.
