Deadline: June 15 for State Legislature to
Pass CA Budget
With just a little more than a week left for the state Legislature to adopt a budget, we are leaving no stone unturned to fight for full CSU funding that supports quality higher education for students and competitive, living wages for employees.
Leading with union solidarity, our CSU labor coalition, representing more than 75,000 employees, sent a letter to state Senate and Assembly leaders urging them to reject Gov. Gavin Newsom's proposed 3% funding cut to the CSU.
There's still time to take action!
June 15 is the deadline for the budget to get passed. Use our Fund the CSU toolkit to call, email, and share on social media about the harm cuts would cause our campuses.
We have two priorities: Win salary steps implementation this October for career staff and a good first contract for student workers.
Our contract says if the final budget does not include the $223 million Compact provided in 2023, the CSU may activate its option to implement steps with one step movement (for workers not above the new scale) and re-open bargaining.

With the Governor's full commitment to funding the Compact, this year's deferral is a promise from the Administration and our position is the CSU must also keep its promise to staff.
Our Union is prepared to take action for any scenario. Member involvement will be key. Stay tuned.
Elevating CSUEU Voices in State Politics
This past weekend, CSUEU members participated in the California Democratic State Convention, bringing the voice of CSU employees directly to the heart of state politics. We were joined by members from CSU San Marcos, union president Catherine Hutchinson, and several other members from across the state who were elected as official delegates to the convention.

Throughout the weekend, we held important conversations with elected officials, candidates, and key political allies, emphasizing the urgent need to fully fund the CSU. We shared how this funding directly impacts students, staff, and the future of higher education in our state.
If you're interested in getting involved with our political program and helping build power for CSU employees statewide, contact Political Director Steven Butcher at sbutcher@csueu.org.
New Member Spotlight

Elias Amini, CSULA, Faculty Affairs Coordinator.
I signed up for the union because I have always been a fan of unions and union work. I have friends who are organizers and participants in other unions in other parts of the state. I grew up in the LA punk scene so working class themes are what I was raised on - styles of music, activism, and organizations - none of it is foreign to me.
Words like community, solidarity and comradery are just that: words. It takes seeking out and working towards a set of goals and hopes to give them life and move them from language to reality. Unions provide that opportunity in so many ways. All it takes is that first step of joining!
Celebrating PRIDE: We Are One Community

June became recognized as Pride Month in the United States to commemorate the Stonewall Uprising when the LGBTQ community rose up and resisted a police raid on a popular gay bar in New York in 1969.
The union movement has been instrumental in advocating for workplace rights and protections for LGBTQ workers because inclusion is core to unions.
More than five decades later, the need to publicly affirm union solidarity with our LGBTQ family is more critical than ever. We say with PRIDE: We are one union, one community.
