Staff Bargaining Recap

We marched on the boss.

Contract Action Team leaders from across California traveled to the Chancellor’s Office on June 4-5 to participate in STRIKE SCHOOL. Part of our training was planning and executing an action during bargaining. Today, we marched into bargaining and told management in unison: We are ready to strike for full steps, raises, and job security. Watch the video on our IG.

Our bargaining team also delivered our substantial economic proposal and our response to management’s recent “no strike” proposal to management (hint: we are not giving up our right to strike).

These are the highlights from our economic proposal, but you can also view the full document here

  • Immediate implementation of full steps
  • Retroactive payments for steps back to October 1, 2025
  • 11% raises for each year of the contract starting July 1, 2026 for all employees, including “red-circled” employees.

The employer has responded to our proposals from our May 7 bargaining session and introduced a set of new proposals. Read their full proposals here, but the outrageous part is:

  • They have outright rejected our solution to the abuse of temporary workers
  • They have outright rejected our solution to the overuse of outside contractors

We are using our voices to solve real problems on campus, but management’s overpaid bargaining team can’t even come to the table with collaborative solutions.

Strike School

Before and during bargaining, Contract Action Team members from nearly every CSU campus in California attended a two-day training session to prepare their campuses for a strike.

CAT members began mapping their campuses by tracking which buildings they have leaders in, and planned their future picket lines.

Every campus needs a CAT that touches every major building and work area from every bargaining unit -  2, 5, 7, 9 — united in a network that can move people to action.

You can help fill out our network of CAT leaders by signing up for the Contract Action Team

CAT members also learned techniques to assess the strike-readiness of their coworkers, developed a campus action plan for #StrikeReadySummer, and gained the tools to execute direct action on their campuses for future bargaining dates.

“I was inspired by Strike School to go out and talk to employees about strike preparation on campus because we have to come together in order to win our demands.”

“Marching on the boss and chanting our demands felt electric. After Strike School, I can now go back to my campus and prepare people for how it’s going to feel to go on strike.”
