Staff Bargaining Recap | June 26, 2026

After arriving 20 minutes late, management sat down to meet with our bargaining team. They immediately informed us that they still do not have a response to our wages proposal we made on June 5. They told us that they are still "figuring out" the state budget. They said we should expect a counter proposal on wages on July 13.
They offered proposals today to simply delay getting to the most important issues. Read them here. We stood strong on our previously stated positions with minor edits viewable here. The only meaningful progress made today was an offer from the CSU for increased parental leave (50 days) and the concept of a unified performance evaluation across all campuses.
Here is a timeline of contract bargaining this year so far:
- In January, the Governor proposed a budget that fully funds the CSU with $365 million in new, on-going funding.
- In May, the Governor reaffirmed this commitment in the May Revise.
- On May 7, we introduced proposals to solve the problem of abuse of temporary workers and the overuse of outside contractors.
- On June 5, we introduced our proposals for fully-funded steps retroactive to October 2025 and 11% raises each year for three years.
- On June 15, the California Legislature passed the budget.
- The CSU has only proposed to take away our right to strike, rejected our job security proposals, and failed to respond to our wages proposal.
On June 30, our contract expires. This means that we will be within our right to strike. Contract Action Team members are preparing to take action on Tuesday on campuses across the state to prepare our campuses for a strike in the Fall semester.
We are bargaining again at CSU Los Angeles on July 1. In anticipation of campus actions on June 30, we won't have another Zoom bargaining townhall until July 2.

“The only thing that is going to move the needle is action that shows the CSU we are prepared and ready to strike. Join us on June 30 for rallies, petition deliveries, and practice pickets on campus”
