Steward Spotlight: Krisha Algoso

Krisha Algoso
Job: Biology Support Technician
Campus: CSU Channel Islands
Years of Work: 3.5 years
What I do
I primarily provide technical support for microbiology laboratory courses by preparing the materials needed for their labs, specifically bacterial cultures. I also support other biology lab courses such as marine biology, vertebrate and invertebrate zoology, and ichthyology. My role on campus directly impacts students because the labs cannot run without a technician's support.
Why I Am a Union Steward
Being part of a union is very important to me. I have many coworkers who are heavily involved in CSUEU since I've started working at CI, and I've witnessed how crucial their roles are in fighting for fair contracts and advocating for members. I’d like to be a union steward to follow in their footsteps. I’ve been organizing chair for the past year now, but I’d like to take my role further by becoming a steward in order to improve my union leadership skills and support my fellow employees in CSUEU.
In addition to interpreting the contract and helping members understand the contract, another main responsibility of a steward is to organize. I can combine my skills as an organizer and a new steward to improve NEOs and find creative ways to increase union membership.
