Year-End Message

From CSUEU President Catherine Hutchinson

As one more year wraps up, I find it's easy to get caught up in the holiday frenzy and forget to take a big breath and savor the moment. I hope we can pause together. Let's remember and celebrate the union wins we achieved collectively in 2025:

  • We beat back an initial state budget proposal that called for a nearly 8% funding cut to no cuts to the CSU.
  • We pressured the Chancellor's Office to accept a $144 million interest-free loan from the state to help workers.
  • We negotiated to place more than 4,000 employees in a new or different classification that better matches their job duties.
  • We worked with legislators to help the Sonoma State community demand a campus plan beyond catastrophic program cuts.
  • We organized 500 Auxiliary Staff and students at ASI Sac State and CSU Long Beach this year. Next month, 700 more Student Workers will be voting UNION YES at Long Beach, making the campus a wall-to-wall union workplace.

Yes, CSU Management broke their promise and chose not to implement a full salary step schedule for Staff. No, we will not accept that and have a plan to win - whatever it takes, even strike - in 2026.

You, our union members, are the foundation of all our victories. I absolutely believe when we come together, there is nothing we can't do. Our work powers the University; our commitment fuels student success. To get ready for the work ahead, I leave you with our "Stronger Together" video, a collection of Staff and Student Worker voices sharing why they are proud members of CSUEU!

Wishing you and yours Happy Holidays!

Catherine Hutchinson
