We did it!

Congratulations on a job well done!  With your help we were able to prevent a parking fee increase meant to begin in March 2014.

As you may know, the Associate Vice President for Administration, Jessica Rentto, by direction from the President's Office, officially presented a letter to me stating that the University would NOT pursue a parking fee increase at this time. Following the email, I received a call from Ms. Rentto where we discussed how the concerns made by the staff are presented to the President, and in this case, our voices were heard. Not only were our voices heard, but you rallied to provide input in the form of online and paper petitions that overwhelmingly opposed the parking fee increase.

Everyone had a part in making this happen and, as an SDSU community, we are able to effect change where it counts. I especially want to recognize a few individuals for their unwavering support during this campaign. Thanks to Mike Geck, Vice President for Organizing for the CSUEU for his leadership, support, and time in preparing numerous forms, petitions, and flyers meant for distribution. Thanks to the entire Chapter 318 Executive Board and Brian Young, our Labor Relations Representative, for their support, networking, and willingness to walk the campus to gather signatures. Thanks to all of you for signing the petitions and voicing your concerns. Finally, I also with to thank President Hirshman, Chief of Staff Andrea Rollins, and AVP Jessica Rentto for acknowledging the concerns of our SDSU community. We hope that we can stay this parking fee increase until such a time when we receive a meaningful salary increase.

Again, congratulations on a job well done and I look forward to this continued momentum for change on our campus. As we claim this victory, many more loom in the distance but require new members and new supporters who are willing to stand with us to fight for your rights and those of your fellow employees. Please consider joining our ranks as either Stewards, Board Members, Committee Members, Organizing Committee, and as new, full-paying members of Chapter 318.
