For Immediate Release: April 5, 2010 Contact: John Watson, (916) 996-3542 / email@example.com CSU EAST BAY STAFF MEMBERS MARCH AND RALLY TO SUPPORT THEIR UNION NEGOTIATORS ON APRIL 6 Workers from across the CSU East Bay Campus will march and rally in support of CSU Employees Union negotiators, who are meeting with administration representatives on April 6 to discuss alternatives to layoffs What : CSU Employees Union (CSUEU) members will march from the site of negotiations to an on-campus rally at which speakers will discuss recently announced layoff notices from workers’ points of view. Purpose : The action is intended to show support for CSUEU negotiators as they explore any and all options to save jobs so that CSU East Bay can survive these difficult economic times with its crucial support infrastructure intact. Background : In mid-February, CSU East Bay announced that an estimated 140 non-teaching staff members, 125 of whom are represented by the CSUEU, would be subject to workforce reductions either by reduced hours or layoffs, effective June 30, 2010. Since then, CSUEU has been in negotiations with campus administration to mitigate layoffs through voluntary reductions in hours and other options. The latest negotiating session is taking place on April 6.
