Statement from Catherine Hutchinson, President of the California State University Employees Union (CSUEU): 'We support Governor Newsom’s efforts to ensure vaccinations reach more Californians. Throughout the pandemic, our Union has worked closely with the California State University (CSU) to prioritize student and staff safety, from demanding PPE to creating the conditions for students to return to schools safely. For CSUEU-represented employees, the CSU is our recognized employer, and it is with the CSU that we negotiate the terms and conditions of employment. Just last week, we successfully negotiated a systemwide testing program where individual CSU campuses may elect to opt in. So far, eight campuses have opted in to the CSU testing program (Humboldt, Channel Islands, Dominguez Hills, Fullerton, Monterey, Northridge, Pomoma, and San Diego). Having a uniform and consistent employee testing program for COVID-19 is a key step toward re-opening campuses safely for the Fall Term. Belonging to a union strengthens workers’ ability to advocate for our own safety as well as for the campuses we serve.' More on California's new vaccine rules .
