Members from the East Bay, Stanislaus, Maritime and San Francisco chapters came together at CSU East Bay two days ago for an on-campus march and rally in support of the CSUEU bargaining team, which was meeting with administration representatives to negotiate layoff notices and voluntary time reduction options. A spirited group of 50-plus supporters met at the Agora Stage in the middle of the campus for a noon rally explaining the budget crisis to onlookers and providing insight into the 86 layoff notices and 46 reassignments with which the staff is dealing. See a just-posted gallery of 36 photos from the event. Two hours later, members from across the state sent emails to a core group of top campus administrators urging them to ask their bargaining team to negotiate in good faith. “The participation of so many members from across the campus and the region really was a morale booster for the entire chapter,” says CSU East Bay Chapter 306 President Diego Campos. Perhaps it’s just a coincidence, but the session went well, with substantial progress made on voluntary time reduction options, as outlined in yesterday’s bargaining update . Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for April 1 negotiations at the Office of the Chancellor concerning the layoff notice there to one employee, as can be gleaned from the April 2 bargaining update .
