CSUEU members commend the visionary leadership of SEIU President Mary Kay Henry, following the announcement of her retirement. Under President Henry’s stewardship over the last 14 years, the union engaged in bold, strategic campaigns to uplift workers in job sectors long plagued by exploitation and abuse. From fast food to childcare, President Henry pushed for a more inclusive movement to empower Brown and Black workers to carve a pathway out of poverty. Recognizing the power of education as a vehicle for economic mobility, President Henry prioritized public investment in schools, including higher education. Currently, 20,000 Student Assistants at the California State University are in the middle of a union election to join CSUEU/SEIU 2579. This is a testament to President Henry’s legacy of nurturing social and progressive change – and building the next generation of labor activists and leaders to secure a just economy for all.
