CSUEU endorses Jose Luis Pacheco and supports David Miller. The CalPERS Board sets policy and oversees the administration of retirement and health benefits on behalf of state workers. There are three ways to cast your ballot by Sept. 27: • Vote online • Vote by phone • Vote by mail CSUEU is endorsing Jose Luis Pacheco a candidate seeking to unseat an incumbent. Jose Luis Pacheco is a PERS candidate who grew up in poverty as the son of farmworkers, earned an economics degree from CSU East Bay and is a second-generation union member. Jose Luis also earned a degree in biological science, a professional certificate in advanced accounting proficiency and an alternative investments certificate from the Harvard School of Business. He currently serves as a chapter president for the California School Employees Association. His opponent, Margaret Brown, was first elected to the PERS board in 2018. As a board member, Brown has been a disruptive force and repeatedly fought with other board members and PERS staff. She has also been disciplined for violating PERS board policies and criticized for her anti-labor positions. CSUEU is supporting David Miller, incumbent running for re-election. David Miller is a current PERS Board member who has been consistently supportive of CSUEU’s efforts to protect our employees’ defined benefit retirement. David is also an accessible and knowledgeable board member who welcomes the input of labor. CSUEU looks forward to a continuing and productive relationship.
